Legendary Juan Atkins Revives Cybotron After 28-Year Hiatus with New EP

After an impressive hiatus of 28 years, Juan Atkins has breathed new life into his Cybotron project. The revival comes in the form of an EP titled "Maintain the Golden Ratio," set to release on October 13 via Tresor. This legendary Detroit techno pioneer collaborated with Laurens von Oswald as his co-producer, with the original co-founder Rik Davis not in the picture this time around.

Cybotron's last offering was the 1995 release "Cyber Ghetto," marking a significant gap in their discography. However, their influence endured, as their 1983 track "Clear" became a cornerstone of techno and even found its way into Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" in 2005. The EP, which includes tracks "Maintain" and "The Golden Ratio (Version)," presents a reinvigorated Cybotron, maintaining the essence that made "Clear" an iconic piece while embracing the evolution of techno, making it a noteworthy addition to their legacy.

With "Maintain," Cybotron delivers an atmospheric machine piece that combines breakbeats, intricate electronics, and a moody backdrop. It's a deliberate exploration of techno's essence and potential, promising a fresh yet familiar journey for both longtime fans and newcomers to the genre. The return of Cybotron, with Juan Atkins and Laurens von Oswald at the helm, hints at exciting possibilities for the future of techno.
